The US recently asked Iran and North Korea (yet again) not to continue with their nuclear program. At the same time, there was talk of the US beefing up security in space. At first glance, this might seem like blatant hypocrisy. But just take a look at the bigger picture:
The US is the only remaining superpower in the world. So the responsibility of saving the world rests with it. This is not a simple job, considering that all creatures, literally from A to Z - Aliens, Bats, Clones, Dinosaurs, ... right up to Zombies - target the US first. In fact, even non-living calamities target the US first - Asteroids, Blizzards, Cataclysms, ..., and Zondas!
Okay, there is a possibility that they may target other nations as well. But even then, just having super-weapons won't help you - you need Will Smith! Unfortunately, he works only for the States. And even if aliens visit other nations, they needn't be hostile - last time they came to India, they made friends with a bunch of kids and even performed a miracle on a mentally challenged person! Hey, does this mean that the possession of super-weapons is actually the cause of these attacks?
My personal favorite is the NASA way of saving the world: First, predict that an asteroid is on its way to collision with the earth. After a few weeks, announce that it was mistaken and there won't be any collision after all! Thus, the world is saved!
Till next time.
"Nuggets of Wisdom" by Haristotle:
Did you know that the word 'sandwich' is an eponym?
The legend goes that in London, 1762, an English nobleman named John Montagu (1718-1792), the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, was once playing a game of cards with his friends. He was so engrossed that even when he felt hungry, he did not want to interrupt the game. So he ordered his servant to bring him a piece of meat between two slices of bread, so that he could hold his cards in one hand and his food in the other. The slices of bread would keep his hands from getting oily. When his friends wanted the same thing, they would ask for "a Sandwich" (i.e., what the "Sandwich" is having), and the name stuck.
By the way, the name 'Sandwich' is Saxon in origin and means 'sandy place' or 'place on the sand'.
Words from the wise:
"Who cares how the word originated? Just tuck in!"
